Math Riddles-- undone.
8 men and 2 boys need to cross a river. They have a canoe which cannot carry more than 1 man or 2 boys at one time. How many river crossings does it take to get everyone across?
To find the answer watch these kids act it out by clicking here!
Mr. Chamberlain's daughter uses manipulatives to solve the problem-- although I think there may have been a calculation error in her final answer :/ Great demonstration on how to visualize it though!
Unlocking Math Mysteries
This blog is intended to be used as a platform to unravel the answers to math "why's". I want to research new math teaching techniques so that my students never have to hear me say, "You just have to practice it," or, "It's just something you have to memorize." I want them to understand that real problems have real solutions, and it's up to us to find them.

Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land
Thank you Mr. Chamberlain and Ms. Jackie for leading me to yet another resource for my classroom. This video was a cute and hopefully effective means of introducing or reviewing some of the concepts I will be teaching.

"Math is the Vocabulary of Your Own Intuition"
I am in the process of exploring to related questions: "What is the best means to enhance student motivation?" and more specifically, "How does math work? --> How can I teach it better?"
This is just one video that explores the weaknesses in America's education institution, and how we can improve our means of teaching problem solving skills.
These are two screen shots that are worth paying attention to when you view this twenty minute movie.

This is a list of current road blocks in our system of learning math.

This is a list of suggested solutions from Dan Meyer.
